Tuscaloosa - Home of Alabama Crimson Tide
Tuscaloosa is the home of the University of Alabama. The city was founded in 1819 along the Black Warrior River and name for the Chocktow Indian chief, Tuscaloosa.

The name "Tuscaloosa" means "Black Warrior". Water oaks planted in Downtown Tuscaloosa have given rise to the city's nickname, Druid City.
The University of Alabama was founded in 1831 and has been in integral part of the city's growth and economy every since. A highlight of Tuscaloosa life is University of Alabama Crimson Tide football. The Crimson Tide won the first Rose Bowl football game in 1925 and has 12 national championships.
Tuscaloosa is also the home of Stillman College. This African-American institution of higher learning was founded in 1874 by the Presbyterian Church in the United States as a school for African-American male ministers. The school was named for Charles Allen Stillman one of the school's visionaries.
