About Albany
Founded by Nelson Tift on the bank of the Flint River in Southwest Georgia, Albany is the hub of Southwest Georgia. It is located in Georgia's Southern Rivers region in the heart of the section known as Plantation Trace. Albany is the pecan capital of the world, but is more widely known for its magnificent quail hunting. Famous native sons and daughters of Albany include Deion Branch, Ray Charles, Alice Coachman, Paula Deen, Jim Fowler, Ray Knight, JoMarie Payton, and Ray Stephens.
